Did you know that in certain European countries it is illegal to display any sort of Nazi symbol? What the fascist white supremacist neo-Nazi scum of Germany, France, etc. have been doing is displaying the Confederate flag instead, because there is no ban on it.
So the next time someone tries to tell you that the flag of the Confederacy has nothing to do with racism, remember that actual Nazis are using it as their preferred symbol, and please remind them that they are actually pieces of literal shit.

While it may be called the “Confederate Flag” it never historically represented the Confederate States of America. Nor was it ever officially recognized as the national flag. Did you know that during World War II that some of the U.S. military units with Southern nicknames, or made up largely of Southerners, made the flag their unofficial emblem?
Did you know that after the Battle of Okinawa, a Confederate Flag flew for 3 days before it was taken down and replaced by the American Flag?
The flag traditionally represented the South’s resistance to Northern political dominance.
Did you know that the swastika literally means “well-being.”? Most people have forgotten that and only link it to Hitler.

Yes because I’m sure literal neo-Nazis are using the swastika to mean ‘well-being’.
Your commentary is unnecessary, unhelpful and irrelevant.

Actually it’s not. It’s factual history. The swastika was hijacked by the Nazis. My commentary wasn’t directed towards you. I was just replying to the content. Sorry(not sorry) if my love of history has annoyed you.

It’s actually really rude and irrelevant though???
The original meaning of the swastika has 0 bearing on modern society since its common use and associated definition is obviously NOT “well-being”.
Is historical information super cool? Sure. Does it really belong on a post about racism? No, not in this particular instance.
At the least your commentary is unnecessary information about (irrelevant) historical context, and at the most it looks like trying to excuse racism by saying “WELL YOU KNOW THIS ACTUALLY MEANS ____” .
There’s a time and a place for everything, this was not the place for your commentary.

This is sooooo on point! Thank you for shutting down BS excuses for using racist symbols in 2014
